Brighton and Hove's Dog Friendly Beaches

Brighton and Hove has plenty of coastline to explore with your dog, but the rules change with the seasons.

From 1 October to 30 April, dogs are welcome on all beaches, and on the upper and lower promenades all year round as long as they're on leads.

From 1 May to 30 September, they're limited to the designated dog-friendly beaches listed below. Read on for where to go, plus top tips from Slobber & Chops to help you make the most of your visit.

Where Can I Take My Dog?

West Hove

If you're in West Hove, you'll want to head to the beach in front of Hove Lagoon - between beach hut 457 and beach hut 376.

There's pay-and-display parking along the seafront close by, so it's an easy spot to reach by car.

Plus the iconic beach huts make a colourful backdrop for a photo of your pup, so make sure to have your camera ready!

Central Hove

In Central Hove you can find dog friendly beaches between the area south of the Bowling Greens from beach hut 212, eastwards to beach hut 153 - just down from Hove Street South.

And once you've had a good run on the pebbles, head over to Marrocco's on King's Esplanade, where Scoops Dog Ice Cream means your pup gets a treat of their own.

East Hove

For East Hove, there are two dog-friendly stretches of beach: one directly in front of The Lawns Cafe, and another just to the east of it.

The cafe itself warmly welcomes dogs, which makes it a great place to meet fellow dog owners and let your pup socialise.

Grab a drink, settle in, and let the tail wagging commence.

West Brighton

Enjoy the stretch of shingle beach in front of the Peace Statue and the Meeting Place Kitchen, running east to the large groyne with the life-ring.

Meeting Place Kitchen is dog-friendly, so your four legged friend is welcome too, and there's parking close by at Regency Square.

East Brighton

If you find yourself east of the Brighton Palace Pier, the beach stretching from Volks Railway Aquarium Station, all the way east to the Marina wall is dog friendly.

Dogs ride free on the Volks Railway too, which makes for an unforgettable experience.

Roedean to Rottingdean

Take in the long run of beaches heading east from the Marina wall to the edge of Rottingdean main beach, opposite the White Horse Hotel.

The hotel is dog friendly too, with 7 designated dog friendly rooms, and dogs are welcome in the bar area and on the lower outside terrace if you just want to stop for refreshments.

Rottingdean to Saltdean

Between Rottingdean and Saltdean all of the beaches east of the large hand-railed groyne, just past Rottingdean main beach, to the 3 main Saltdean beaches in front of the tunnel are dog friendly.

Saltdean Lido also runs special doggy days for swimming, so look out for these dates!
