Frequently Asked Questions:
How Will I Know If a Food is Right for My Pet?
As a company specialising in healthy dog food, we define products as being “just right” for pets when they offer the best, most complete diet in a form that your dog enjoys the most. If the diet you’re offering them is healthy and balanced, whether the food is dry or wet, you should notice your dog’s skin will be soft and nourished, their coat will shine, their eyes will be bright and clear and their teeth will be as strong as the day they first came in. They will also maintain a healthy weight, with energy levels that suit the habits of their breed.
These are signs to start to watch out for when you switch food types and would like to know if the newer product is better for your best friend. So, if you are looking for the healthiest dog food brands in stores or online, you will know you are on the right track when you see these starting to happen.
Is There a Difference Between Adult Dog Food and Puppy Food?
Puppies and adult dogs both have different needs when it comes to nutrition. For example, as puppies are still growing and building up their bones, organs and adult teeth, their diets require a higher amount of protein. Adult dogs, on the other hand, will need a good, balanced and complete diet in their weight and size category to remain their naturally healthy, happy selves.
With this in mind, we have ensured that every recipe for both our puppy and adult dry food types comes packed with all the high-quality nutrients they need, expertly made into delicious kibble that will have them barking at breakfast and drooling before dinner.

When serving compressed food, all you will have to do to ensure your animal companion is getting the healthy, yummy diet that is right for them is measure out the correct portion for their weight and size.
How Should I Transition My Dog onto a New, Healthy Food Brand?
Dogs can often have rather sensitive stomachs, so if you are planning on changing his or her food to a completely new brand, you should ensure it is done gradually. Even if the food is healthy, it will still make a difference to their digestive system!
Start by gently mixing in small amounts of the new food with their current dry or wet food brand, and gradually increase this until they are able to tackle full bowls of the healthy food without any problems whatsoever. We recommend that this is done with our products over a period of 7-10 days so that both small and large breed dogs have a chance to settle and develop a taste for their new, finely prepared meals.
Are Treats and Scraps Allowed Alongside Healthy Dog Food?
Many people love to treat their dog with a little bit of deboned chicken from their dinner plate, or with a crunchy biscuit when having a cuppa to relax. But to keep your four-legged best friend as healthy and as happy as they can be, this must be kept in proportion. It's also worth staying in the know about what household foods can be toxic to dogs, like onions, grapes and chocolate.
At Slobber & Chops, we always advise feeding your dog a 100% balanced and complete meal and using healthy and where possible 100% natural treats for rewards. Dogs have complex dietary requirements and to achieve this from leftovers is practically impossible.
Overfeeding has the same effect on dogs as it does on us humans, and can lead to them becoming overweight or developing some serious health problems. As such, treats should never comprise more than 10% of your dog’s diet, with high sugar content being avoided.
Small portions of uncooked vegetables, such as carrots or broccoli may make a healthy vitamin-rich, fibre-filled alternative to processed treats.
